Harry Potter fans around the world have been eagerly anticipating the release of Voldemort: Origins of the Heir, a fan-produced film that has been approved by Warner Bros.

After months of waiting, the full production has been uploaded to YouTube, the runtime totalling just over 50 minutes. You can watch here.

The Italian movie – redubbed in English – was originally funded through Kickstarter, the Hollywood studio contacting the filmmakers midway through production, only allowing them to continue if they agreed to release Origins of the Heir for free.

Speaking last year about the project, director Gianmaria Pezzato said they wanted to look further into Tom Marvolo Riddle’s past and how he became He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named, having been inspired by JK Rowling’s sixth novel, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.

“We wondered, ‘What made Tom Riddle become Voldemort?’” Pezzato said. “What happened in those years, and what really went down at Hogwarts when he came back?

“There are some clues in the books which have not been transposed at all in the movies, but a lot goes unspoken. This is the story we want to tell: The rise of the Dark Lord before Harry Potter and his first demise.”
