Jumanji: Dwayne Johnson promises reboot will 'honour' Robin Williams

'You have my word, we will honor his name and the character of "Alan Parrish" will stand alone and be forever immortalized in the world of Jumanji in an earnest and cool way'

Outside of the sanctity of nostalgia, there was one major concern surrounding the announced Jumanji reboot: the utterly inimitable legacy of Robin Williams. How could anyone even hope to touch upon such greatness?

"An important thing that I want to be honest and bring up is Robin Williams," star Dwayne Johnson wrote on social media. "The love and respect I have for this man is boundless. You have my word, we will honor his name and the character of "Alan Parrish" will stand alone and be forever immortalized in the world of Jumanji in an earnest and cool way."

The actor posted to Instagram a shot of himself holding the film's original, source material: the picture book of the same name, written and illustrated by Chris Van Allsburg, following news he would both produce and star in a new take on the classic property.

"I'm feelin' good and confident stepping into these shoes as a producer as well as actor to bring you something great that you and your entire fam can enjoy," he continued. "Here's another fun part... in the original movie there were three big roles. In our new story there's now five."

He then teased that casting announcements should be coming this week; will the rumoured Kevin Hart be one of those names?
