‘No buttocks, breasts or thongs' – Grammy Awards wardrobe advisory

It might have been Rihanna’s crotch-emphasising outfit at the 2011 awards, above, that did it; Or possibly Pink’s flesh-flashing body suit of 2010. But Americans have had enough of revealing outfits at the Grammy Awards, apparently, with television channel CBS issuing a stern ‘wardrobe advisory’ to those attending Sunday night’s ceremony.

According to an email leaked to Deadline nipples, breasts, buttocks (specifically buttock crack and buttock curve) are banned - and guests must make sure their genital regions are “adequately covered”.

The requirements, directed mostly at female awards attendees, also include the specific instruction that there is “no visible ‘puffy’ bare skin exposed” in the genital region. Anyone who flouts such rules risks not appearing on television. Which might seem anathema when celebrities are used to getting maximum publicity for wearing the minimum of clothing.

The missive reads: “Please be sure that buttocks and female breasts are adequately covered. Thong type costumes are problematic. Please avoid exposing bare fleshy under curves of the buttocks and buttock crack. Bare sides or under curvature of the breasts is also problematic.”

“Please avoid sheer see-through clothing that could possibly expose female breast nipples. Please be sure the genital region is adequately covered so that there is no visible ‘puffy’ bare skin exposure. OBSCENITY OR PARTIALLY SEEN OBSCENITY ON WARDROBE IS UNACCEPTABLE FOR BROADCAST.”

Let’s hope Rihanna, who is due to perform with Bruno Mars and Sting, got the email.
