Oscars 2016: upset over exclusion of Uggie, the dog from The Artist, from the In Memoriam tribute

The canine star of 'The Artist' passed away this year at the age of 13

This was a year particularly marked by difficult losses for the filmmaking community.

In turn, the Academy Awards In Memoriam tribute allowed Hollywood to bid farewell to so many of these incredible talents: to Christopher Lee, Omar Sharif, Alan Rickman, James Horner, and David Bowie.

The list of those notable names who had passed in the last year was accompanied by Dave Grohl's cover of The Beatles' 'Blackbird'; a move so simple, yet so touching in its earnestness.

However, not everyone was quite so happy with how this year's In Memoriam rolled out.

Parts of the internet expressed (semi-serious?) rage that Uggie, the canine star of 2011's The Artist, hadn't been included in the list of names. He passed away this year at the age of 13.

The Artist won Best Picture in 2012; and though Uggie may not have been nominated, Jean Dujardin did walk away with Best Actor.
