Earlier this year, LucasFilm announced that Phil Lord and Chris Miller would be leaving the currently untitled Han Solo film midway through shooting.

According to carious sources, the duo — who previously helmed The Lego Movie, 21 Jump Street, and Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs — were going too off-script, getting acts to improvise the majority of their dialogue.

Since leaving the Star Wars project, there’s been some question as to where Lord and Miller would end up. Some thought they may return to Warner Bros. to direct The Flash, a superhero flick they were initially attached to before Star Wars.

Entertainment Weekly has the scoop on their next project: an adaptation of Andy Weir’s upcoming novel Artemis. Weird’s debut novel, The Martian, was previously adapted by Ridley Scott, winging several Oscars.

Artemis, described as a heist story set on the moon, reaches bookstores on the 17 November. The film rights were purchased by 20th Century Fox and New Line back in May.

Speaking to EW earlier in the year, the author explained how Artemis focusses on a “directionless twenty-something” smuggler who gets wrapped up in a life-changing heist.

He told the publication: “I worked hard to make a deeper character than [The Martian’s] Mark Watney. Jazz is more nuanced. She’s flawed. She makes bad decisions. She’s incredibly intelligent, but she’s always looking for the shortcut.”

Meanwhile, work has continued on the Han Solo movie with Ron Howard taking over as director. Recently, it was announced Michael Kenneth Williams’ role character — a half-human, half-animal — had been cut from the film.

The spin-off looks set for a 25 May 2018 release, with Alden Ehrenreich, Woody Harrelson, Emilia Clarke, Donald Glover, Thandie Newton and Phoebe Waller-Bridge still set to star.
