JK Rowling saw over 100,000 retweets yesterday, when she described genuine presidential candidate Donald Trump’s proposed ban on Muslim immigration to the US as “horrible,” saying in response to comparisons with her character Voldemort that He Who Must Not Be Named was “nowhere near as bad”.

Fans have been echoing her sentiments this morning, pointing out that Voldemort was in many ways a more, diligent, efficacious villain than Trump.

Pretty sure Voldemort had better morals than Trump,” one tweeted, “Voldemort just singled out Harry, Trump singles out an entire religion.”

Many pointed out how the Dark Lord came across as smarter than the Republican, and it was noted that Tom Riddle at least had the excuse of having a bad start in his life.

Another Twitter user at least reassured people: “Voldemort is a better person than Trump but I feel like the senate can block an insane person easier than a wizard.. “

The White House made an uncharacteristically strong comment on Trump’s campaign yesterday, saying that his comments about Muslims rendered his presidential bid void.

"The fact is what Donald Trump said yesterday disqualifies him from serving as president," press secretary Josh Earnest told reporters, noting that every president must take an oath to "preserve, protect and defend" the U.S. Constitution, and thus, Trump would not qualify.
