Sonic the Hedgehog movie: Fast and Furious producer working on live-action film
Neal H Moritz will bring everyone's favourite blue hedgehog to the big screen
Sonic the Hedgehog is steaming towards Hollywood for a hybrid live-action, computer-animated movie.
The Sonic videogame, in which the world’s fastest hedgehog’s peaceful life is regularly disrupted by the evil Doctor Eggman, remains popular after selling more than 140 million copies worldwide.
According to a press release, the new film will capture “Sonic’s irreverent tone and spirit, reuniting him with some of the most revered and infamous characters of the franchise”.
Producer Neal H Moritz is bringing the Sega Genesis game to the big screen with Sony Pictures Animation, while Evan Susser and Van Robichaux are penning the script.
There is no release date confirmed but the project is in the pipeline.
“There are limitless stories to tell with a character like Sonic the Hedgehog, and a built-in international fanbase,” overseer Hannah Minghella said in a statement.
“We’re looking to capture everything that generations of fans know and love about Sonic while also growing his audience wider than ever before.”
Moritz is known for his work on the Fast and Furious films, as well as recent release 22 Jump Street. His Goosebumps adaptation starring Jack Black is scheduled to hit cinemas in August 2015.
