Spotify is jumping on the Star Wars bandwagon and awakening the force this week, releasing a special website that matches users’ music tastes with a character from the hit sci-fi franchise.

It’s easy to play along. Simply open Spotify Star Wars, log in to your account and let the site analyse what you’ve been listening to, before letting you know your character based on your most-visited bands.

Of course, this is all rather silly, as no-one really knows what music the fictional characters are into, but it basically goes something like this:

Anakin Skywalker (Episode I) (Kids Bop)

Anakin Skywalker (Episode II - III) (Emo)

Padme Amidala (Girl Power)

Darth Maul (Grizzly Death Metal / Thrash Groove Metal / Gangsta Rap)

Jar Jar Binks (Jam Bands)

Qui-gon Jinn (Progressive Rock)

Yoda (Focus)

Mace Windu (Nu-metal, Hip Hop)

Obi-wan Kenobi (Episode I - III) (Brit Rock, Hip Hop)

Obi-wan Kenobi (Episode IV - VI) (British Invasion)

Luke Skywalker (Modern Pop)

Princess Leia (80s Power Pop, Shimmer Pop)

Han Solo (Classic Country Rock. Bro Country, Modern Hip Hop)

R2-D2 (Trance, Techno, EDM)

C-3PO (Classical)

Chewbacca (Hair Metal)

Imperial Stormtrooper (Anthem Rock)

Darth Vader (Early Metal)

Boba Fett (Punk)

Emperor Palpatine (Dubstep or Disney)

Lando Calrissian (R&B)

Battle Droid (Elevator Music)

Count Dooku (Gothic Dance Fantasy, Gothic Chamber)

General Grievous (Dubstep, Heavy EDM)

Ahsoka Tano (Indie Pop)

Asajj Ventress (Witch House)

Jawa (Disney Soundtracks)

Tarkin (Opera / Classical)

Gredo (Standoff Music / Western Soundtracks)

Wicket (Jam Bands / Drum Music)

Figran D’an and the Modal Nodes (Big Band)

Jabba the Hutt (Tuba Music, Gangsta Rap)

Admiral Ackbar (Surf Rock / Tropical House)

Salacious Crumb (Grunge / Dirty South Rap)

If you don’t have a Spotify login, you can sign in as a guest and be given a character after choosing your five favourite artists. Everyone is then encouraged to listen to a playlist curated around their match, which is pretty cool, but the best thing is that the progress bar at the bottom turns into a lightsaber.

“We are nerds,” a Spotify spokesman told the International Business Times, adding that the site also lets visitors buy cinema tickets.

Spotify is not the only company to team its marketing up with Disney. Google’s Easter Egg proved hugely popular a few weeks ago, with users being met with a scrolling search screen reminiscent of the iconic opening scene after typing “A long time ago in a galaxy far far away” into the search bar.

Google went one step further, too, encouraging users to choose the light or dark side of the force before changing all their services to reflect their allegiance, while Facebook is letting users add lightsabers to their profile pictures.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens arrives in UK cinemas tomorrow after the premiere in Leicester Square tonight.
