Star Wars: Episode 7 has added a new cast member, according to multiple reports, with Christina Chong set to play a small role in JJ Abrams' sequel.

Chong's previous credits include Madonna's W.E and she was last seen in 24: Live Another Day, with Variety claiming her part in the film will only be a minor one.

Her casting comes after another couple of unknowns were added earlier this month in the form of Crystal Clarke and parkour practitioner Pip Andersen.

The former will play Rachel, an ambitious, 17-year-old street smart orphan "using humor and guts to get by", while Andersen will take on Thomas, a smart, fatherless guy in his late teens or early twenties who "understands you can’t take life too seriously".

Production on Episode VII will go on a two-week hiatus in August while Harrison Ford continues to recover from his ankle injury.

The movie is believed to have been filming in the Forest of Dean recently, leading to speculation that the Ewok planet of Endor might be back.

Star Wars: Episode VII opens in cinemas 18 December, 2015.
