Despite making millions at the box office, both fans and critics alike were disappointed by Suicide Squad, the villainous team-up that promised so much but failed to deliver.

As with everything that makes money, Hollywood is making a sequel. While little is currently known about the sequel, Mel Gibson is currently being pursued to direct.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Warner Bros. is currently negotiating with The Legend of Tarzan writer Adam Cozad to work on the film’s script.

The report details how the studio have made Suicide Squad their priority yet still have no director on board - instead, focussing on nailing the script.

David Ayer - who wrote and directed the initial Oscar-winning instalment - will not be back for the second film, which stars Will Smith, Margot Robbie and Jared Leto.

Ayer and Robbie, however, will be working together once again on the upcoming spin-off Gotham City Sirens, which will focus on the DC Universe’s numerous female villains.

Along with working on Tarzan, Cozad is best known for co-writing the Chris Pine-starring Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit. The scribe also penned the upcoming Kristen Stewart-led action Underwater.
