We're rolling in so close to Suicide Squad's release now, and a sudden rather intriguing mystery has popped up.

After months of rumours that Ben Affleck's Batman would be making an appearance - with what seemed like confirmation in the trailers - it's now instead been revealed that an entirely different Justice League member will be cameoing in the film.

Following eagle-eyed fans spotting the same lightening-esque effects used to show The Flash (Ezra Miller)'s powers in action featured in the film's Comic-Con trailer, Deadline is reporting Miller's name appears amongst the press notes handed out at critics screenings.

No information as to the size of Miller's role in the film, or what exactly his character will do, was included; Warner Bros. has unsurprisingly been keeping tight-lipped about the revelation, yet reports are his appearance was filmed during the Suicide Squad reshoots last spring.

Here's where the mystery deepens, however: one name not included within the press notes is one Ben Affleck. Batman's been all but confirmed to appear, with set photos revealing the character clinging to the top of the Joker's car in an epic chase sequence; yet the lack of Affleck's name may signify his screen time in the role is absolutely minimal.

*Now, here's where some potentially [MAJOR SPOILERS] creep in*

The Batsuit in action is seen elsewhere in the released Suicide Squad footage, either carrying Harley or diving into the waters. However, if this toy reveal at Comic-Con is anything to go by, that might not be Batman himself donning the suit in those shots.

Curiouser and curiouser.

Suicide Squad hits UK cinemas 5 August.
