Thor: Ragnarok trailer

Marvel seems to have a love affair with upping their own stakes nowadays.

And Thor: Ragnarok might just be their wildest, coolest movie yet; thanks to New Zealand's auteur of the moment, Taika Waititi, who's taken a swift leap from indie hit Hunt for the Wilderpeople straight into blockbuster territory with absolute style.

All promised by a new trailer that hit Comic-Con's Hall H, alongside some interesting details as to what's been planned for Thor's grand, third outing.

Imprisoned on the other side of the universe, after his beloved Mjolnir is destroyed at the hands of Hela (Cate Blanchett), the Goddess of Death, Thor (Chris Hemsworth) bumps into a much-changed Hulk (Mark Ruffalo).

"Hulk refuses to turn back into Banner and he’s enjoying his time on Sakaar as a gladiator champion," Ruffalo said of his character's time on the remote planet and its gladiatorial arena ruled over by Jeff Goldblum's the Grandmaster.

However, Hulk's changed in an even bigger way since we last saw him: he can talk now... sort of. "Because he's been the Hulk for two years now, he has the vocabulary of a two year old. So we have a speaking Hulk. Can I say that?" Mark Ruffalo questioned. "Too late," Waititi replied.

The released trailer also saw new character Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson) kicking some serious butt, alongside Karl Urban's Skurge, and the return of Tom Hiddleston's Loki.

Thor: Ragnarok hits UK cinemas 27 October.
