He thinks the Oscars will no longer be relevant if it doesn't

Apparently overlooked in its first six instalments, Fast & Furious 7 has been tipped to win Best Picture at the 2016 Oscars by star Vin Diesel.

The film will serve as a Paul Walker memorial and no doubt do incredibly well at the box office, though honours from the Academy might be over-doing it slightly.

"Universal is going to have the biggest movie in history with this movie," Diesel told Variety. "It will probably win best picture at the Oscars, unless the Oscars don't want to be relevant ever."

I'd argue that the Oscars would lose all relevance if it started dishing out its top awards to action franchises, but I don't want to piss on Vin's parade, he is hugely emotionally invested in this movie.

Last week, he turned up to a screening of Furious 7 in Los Angeles, giving a tearful speech about it being dedicated to his "brother" Paul Walker, who died in a car crash on 30 November, 2013.

Fast & Furious 7 has a UK release date of 3 April, 2015.
