Watch Jonny Depp star as part-time rogue and art dealer Mortdecai in new trailer

Hollywood star becomes moustachioed British art dealer for new film

He’s played the pirate, the Mad Hatter, the gonzo journalist, and Tonto, but in Johnny Depp’s new film he will play the plummy, moustachioed British art dealer Charlie Mortdecai.

For those unfamiliar with the character, he is an adaptation of Kyril Bonfiglioli’s debonair art dealer in the comic thriller novels The Mortdecai Trilogy. The film adaptation, directed by Eric Aronson, sees Depp gallivanting across the globe in chase of a stolen painting thought to hold the key to some mystery treasure, battling through scrape after scrape with nothing but his good looks and unquestionable charm.

Starring alongside Gwyneth Paltrow, Ewan McGregor, Paul Bettany and Olivia Munn, Depp and his “manservant” must juggle angry Russians, the MI5, his wife and the threat of an international terrorist to find the painting, which is believed to hold the code to a lost bank account thought to be filled with Nazi gold.

Fans will have to wait until February 2015 to see the film in cinemas however, and to find out if the cast’s plummy British accents hold up for the entire performance.
