Fox has released the first image of David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson filming scenes for the new The X-Files season.

There isn't a huge amount to glean from it, especially given that the shot is only scene through a camera, but the costume might be telling.

Scully looks very much back to business in a blazer and blouse, while Mulder looks like a dad who's fallen off the wagon in jeans, dusty jacket and sunglasses (very reminiscent of his character Hank Moody in Californication) - maybe he went to seed in the years in between?

Cast and crew seem very excited about the show's return, with Anderson previously tweeting a picture of their on-set chairs and Duchovny posting a photo of their welcome pack.

Details of new plot lines are scant, though there is rumoured to be an episode entitled 'Home Again' that follows up the incredibly creepy season 4 episode 'Home'.

The Cigarette Smoking Man is thought to be back, though it remains to be seen whether he will actually continue to smoke cigarettes given how this is now banned from being depicted on mainstream channels like Fox.

The X-Files season 10 is expected to arrive in 2016. Expect teaser trailers soon.
