Review of Being Human: ‘Being Human 1955’
Following on from an episode tinged with tragedy, this week lifted the mood with something lighter.
In 2001,
Cats and Dogs posited the idea that mutts and moggies could talk and joke like us, or like a bad screenwriter's version of us. This shaggy-dog sequel concerns an evil masterplan dreamed up by creepy hairless feline Kitty Galore (voiced by Bette Midler) to send canines barking mad and make the world her "scratching post".
Can a disgraced police dog and his pals foil her? And will the kids for whom this is intended pick up the cute references to 007, Scarface, Silence of the Lambs et al? The single amusing scene takes place in a squat where feline dropouts lounge around "hopped up on catnip", but it's no reason to choose it when you could see Toy Story 3 again.
