DVD & Blu-ray review: The Perks of Being a Wallflower (15)

“You should learn to participate,” maintains Paul Rudd's English teacher to timid high-school freshman Charlie (Logan Lerman).

The sensitive 16-year-old slowly emerges from his shell, thanks to Ezra Miller's gay Patrick and his sassy stepsister Sam (Emma Watson, unconvincing). Over the course of a year, the three misfits bond and squabble.

This muddled teen drama, adapted from Stephen Chbosky's bestseller for young adults and set in middle-class 1990s Pittsburgh, fails to convince.
