DVD: Monsters vs Aliens, For retail & rental, (Paramount)

Barnstorming title, shame about the slick but empty cartoon that goes with it. Its heroine is a 50ft woman (voiced by Reese Witherspoon) who is recruited by the US government to repel an alien invasion, alongside a few other classic movie monsters.

The film has all the over complicated, videogame-friendly action sequences we've come to expect from second-tier computer animations, as well as the customary ironic one-liners and pop-culture references. But it doesn't have much else.
