DVD: Still Walking, For retail & rental (New Wave)
Hirokazu Kore-eda's Ozu-esque family drama takes place over a single day: the anniversary of the death of a favourite son.
Bickering abounds at the parental home of the Yokoyama family, as the ties between each member come under the microscope. Languorously paced and unfussily shot, Kore-eda's film comes with little "action", but plenty of quiet dialogue, offering revelations that piece together to lay bare a complex family dynamic. In short, a contemplative delight.
