DVD: The Brothers Bloom, For retail & rental (Optimum)

Like most con-man comedies, this one features a pair of tricksters (Adrien Brody and Mark Ruffalo) who plot to relieve a rich woman (Rachel Weisz) of her fortune.

Unlike most con-man comedies, though, it's a fantasy set in a fairy-tale world where people travel by steam train. The playfulness is fun, but because it's impossible for us to believe in any of it, it's impossible to be fooled by any of the cons. Doesn't that defeat the point?
