DVD: The Dark Knight, Retail & Rental, (Warner)

Christopher Nolan tops his own 'Batman Begins' with a film that's less inspired by superhero comics than by crime novels, as it traces the trail of a city's corruption from its backalleys to its corridors of power.

In this version, Batman (Christian Bale) is no longer the usual lone avenger, but a very rich, very well-connected secret agent who happens to wear a cape. It's not for everyone, and it's definitely dark, but you have to respect Nolan's ambition.
