In Terence Davies' adaptation of Terence Rattigan's play, Rachel Weisz – too young and beautiful for the role – leaves her fusty husband, Simon Russell Beale, for a dashing airman, Tom Hiddleston, only to find that he can't give her the love she needs.

Davies shuffles Rattigan's chronology, but The Deep Blue Sea is still stubbornly theatrical, with exaggerated performances and stagey scenery.
