Andrew Haigh's authentic, affecting and pretty explicit tale focuses on two gay men, reticent lifeguard Russell (Tom Cullen) and cocksure art student Glen (Chris New), who meet on a Friday night in a Nottingham night club and have a one-night stand that turns into something more.
Over a weekend, they share their insecurities (Russell feels like he's "Third Division" in terms of looks), their anger, a bike ride and quite a few drugs. This naturalistic romance is reminiscent of Jamie Thraves's under-appreciated, low-key The Low Down from 2000 and it contains two excellent central performances, plus a crisp, clever script: "Is this our Notting Hill moment?"
