DVD/Blu-ray: We Bought a Zoo (PG)

I bought a corkscrew, which was marginally more gripping than this cloying true tale.

Matt Damon lends it some dignity as Benjamin Mee, a single father (his wife perished six months before) who… wait for it… buys a rundown California zoo in the countryside, taking on a small, kooky team of staff into the bargain. Scarlett Johansson is rather good as a foxy zookeeper and there's some decent songs ("Buckets of Rain", "I Think It's Going to Rain Today") on the soundtrack, but this is soppy and manipulative.
