The director Hoyt H Yeatman Jr (an American, perchance?) says he got the idea for this adventure movie about guinea pigs as special agents from his five-year-old son. Thanks a lot, kid.
Zach Galifianakis, described in the press notes as the "quite literal wild card" in The Hangover, has a reduced role as the handler of a team of crack rodent commandos. They are on the trail of an electronics tycoon (Bill Nighy) who purposes to turn his range of household appliances into lethal weapons: I'm guessing, but the psychotic coffee machine might be a first in cinema.
Sam Rockwell, Penelope Cruz, Nicolas Cage and Steve Buscemi (playing an anti-social ferret, inevitably) do the voice work, while the husband-and-wife team The Wibberleys, who wrote Bad Boys 2 and Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle, do the script. One or two of the ideas are actually not bad – there's a rather cute joke about a mole, for instance – but for the most part, it's like running on a wheel.
