Being from the same producers as 300, this mash-up of Greek myth and graphic violence will have strong appeal to an adolescent market and admirers of the sculpted male form, preferably in its oiled state.
Mickey Rourke takes on the role of Hyperion, a warrior so vicious he spends most of the time maiming his own soldiers. Resisting him on behalf of humanity is the low-born but brave Theseus (Henry Cavill), chosen by Zeus for the purpose, and a gorgeous prophetess named Phaedra (Freida Pinto).
The action is punctuated by interventions from the gods on Mount Olympus, recognisable by their gold lame outfits and cool magic weapons. The director Tarsem Singh raids the FX cupboard with abandon.
