This comedy about a pair of grabby opportunists on the French Riviera feels so grotesquely misjudged that I watched it in a stupor of embarrassment. Audrey Tautou plays a gamine gold-digger who makes an untypical error when she mistakes a waiter (Gad Elmaleh) for a wealthy playboy. On discovery, she dumps him. Miffed, he sets himself up as a gigolo in amorous rivalry.

Writer-director Pierre Salvadori seems to believe he's channelling the spirit of Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany's, whereas all we can see are two people competing to be the craftier parasite.
