"What do we have to lose? one character asks in this good-natured but feeble heist comedy. "Our dignity," is the answer. The Love Punch plays like a corny 1970s sitcom and trades shamelessly in clichés about the French.
The plot is some hokum about a divorced Home Counties couple (Pierce Brosnan, Emma Thompson) who head to France to pursue a crooked financier who has ruined Brosnan's business. Their idea of revenge is to steal the diamond the financier has bought for his bride to be.
Celia Imrie and Timothy Spall are their neighbours, along for the ride. There are some guffaws and the actors look as if they're enjoying the Riviera locations, but dignity is in short supply.
