Antarctica, six million square miles of ice and lonelier than death, is the setting for this so-so thriller.

Kate Beckinsale is a US marshal with implausibly perfect skin and a troubled past who finds a murder victim out on the plains of ice, so with a storm coming in and a killer on the loose she has her work cut out. Apart from a lascivious shot of his scantily clad star, director Dominic Sena keeps the action fairly swift under blizzard-like conditions: at times we seem to be watching people fight inside a snow globe. And maybe my eyesight is also to blame: for most of the movie I thought the doctor actually played by Tom Skerritt was played by Kris Kristofferson.
