Zack and Miri Make a Porno (18)

Kevin Smith, potty-mouthed laureate of slackers and slobs, has made a comedy for these credit-squeezed times.

Zack (Seth Rogen) and Miri (Elizabeth Banks) have been housemates since college days and now, with unpaid utility bills piling up, they face a grim Pittsburgh winter without light or heat.

Needing money quickly, Zack hits on a DIY scheme of outrageous cynicism: they'll make a porn movie in the coffee shop where he works. The project's title? "Swallow My Cockuccino". You may hear yourself groan. Smith does at least whip things along (oo-er) swiftly, if not very comically, though his movie faces an insurmountable problem – namely, how to make porn look dafter and cheaper than it already is. Rogen does his man-child-slob shtick dependably, and Elizabeth Banks is a good sport as well as a decent comedian. One only wishes that the whole thing were funnier.
