In which picture by which painter can you find this bit of wood?

Answers on a postcard, to arrive by Friday 27 August: DETAILS 447, IoS, 1 Canada Square, Canary Wharf, London E14 5DL. Three winners will each receive a bottle of champagne

Details 445 came from The West Facade of Church of St Mary, Utrecht (1662) by Pieter Jansz Saenredam. His speciality was architectural portraiture, particularly the interiors of churches.

This is a rarish outdoor view. Its subject is a Romanesque church, built in the 12th century - and demolished in the 19th, so the apparent observational truth of the scene can't now be checked against the facts. But the building does occur in other pictures by Saenredam, and comparison suggests that the pristine geometry of this image may have involved some slight improvements on reality (proportions altered, surroundings cleared). The painting is in the Thyssen-Bornemisza Collection, Madrid.

The first three correct entries came from: B Hamilton-Smith, Surrey; J Wiggins, London SE13; and P Binnie, London SW19
