Letter: A father's place

Sir: I do not know what research referred to by John Griffiths shows that nearly half of single mothers deliberately obstruct access by fathers to their children.

A study by Mavis Maclean and myself found no such cases (suggesting they are rare) but we did find instances where mothers asked solicitors if they could compel the separated father to take an interest in the children. That may therefore be the more common situation.
