Letter: A Nato farce
Sir: In view of Nato's inept and farcical efforts over Kosovo, we must all be profoundly grateful that they never had to deal with a Russian invasion of Western Europe.
On the present showing, the Bolshevik hordes would certainly have been across the Channel before Jamie Shea had time to mount his podium and explain to us how the bombing of maternity hospitals and school buses was leading to a glorious victory for the Allies.
Since it is highly probable that the Russians never intended to invade western Europe, can Nato be credited with ever achieving any military purpose whatsoever, apart from providing careers for beribboned generals and an opportunity for the making of profits in the arms bazaar?
