Letter: Budget losers

Sir: This year's Budget has outlined plans for government to contribute pounds 30 to every donation of at least pounds 100. It has also encouraged corporate donations by reducing the level for gift aid from pounds 250 to pounds 100, and encouraging give-as-you-earn.

The Children's Trust, however, is disappointed that the Government has not seen fit to ease the burden of irrecoverable VAT. In 1998 we were unable to recover pounds 125,000 on costs incurred providing services to profoundly disabled children.

We hope that the Government will reconsider.
