Letter: Children's Society

Sir: As a teacher in an ethnically diverse comprehensive school I found the suggestion attributed to the Children's Society and the Runnymede Trust that teachers are showing inadvertent prejudice against black pupils both naive and misleading ("Black expulsions blamed on racism", 4 June). The expulsions are a symptom of far more complex social problems. The charities are right to demand urgent attention to such disturbing statistics. However to blame schools is both unfair to students and to teachers, the vast majority of whom are dedicated to the achievement of all children equally.
