Sir: Different observers will have their own view about whether Abdullah Ocalan was sincere in his courtroom appearance when he said he shared the suffering of bereaved families of soldiers killed by the PKK. But why should The Independent find his words undignified ("Ocalan, once scourge of the Turks, begs court for his life", 1 June)? Would you prefer it if Ocalan had rejoiced in his killings?
