Sir: Damian Stuart (letter, 22 July) asks why urban MPs should be allowed to vote on rural matters such as fox-hunting. I didn't notice the shire Tory MPs abstaining when their government was decimating heavy industry and abolishing the GLC. What he seems to be advocating is decisions affecting a locality being decided by local government. What a stroke of luck that the Tories didn't succeed in eliminating it completely.
