Sir: The spokeswoman who maintained that News At Ten "would often begin a moment or two adrift from 10pm" is being highly economical with the truth ("Blair misses headlines", 4 August). I was a transmission controller with ITV for 16 years, and during that time the news only ever started past 10pm if it was preceded by a party political broadcast. It never started before the scheduled time. The fact that it does so now is purely down to sloppy scheduling.
