Letter: In Brief

Sir: What twaddle John O'Brien writes (letter, 20 October) saying e- mail is cheap. The incremental cost of an e-mail is negligible only if you already have the necessary hardware and software and have paid your Net subscription - usually justified by other professional or hobby uses. If, like most of us, you haven't, then you'd have to buy an awful lot of 20p, 26p and 43p stamps before it would have been cheaper to send e- mail.
