Letter: Kosovo confusion
Sir: Most of the Serbs I know are confused by the inconsistency of western policy over Kosovo. In 1945 the majority of the population there were Serbian. Since then, due to a combination of resettlement, the Albanian birth rate (the highest in Europe) and illegal immigration from Albania, the Serbian population in Kosovo has dwindled to 10 per cent.
While no one wants to support a regime like Mr Milosovic's, nor any policy of ethnic cleansing or genocide by anyone, I do not believe that we will help the Albanians or the Serbs by bombing Serbia. Indeed it is the very policy that is most likely to keep Mr Milosovic in power.
