Sir: The Royal Opera House audiences are certainly not all "plutocratic diva devotees" (leading article, 13 October). If your leader writer had mingled regularly with the keen music lovers in the amphitheatre as well as other areas of the house, he would have seen that they were ordinary people in ordinary dress from all walks of life, there simply to enjoy the superb performances.
