Letter: Royal land-grab

Sir: Jennifer Miller (letter, 11 June) misses the point about the revenue from the Crown Estates. These estates were wrongfully taken from the community by past kings and given to their cronies in return for favours. The estates now rightfully belong to the community and not to any family, Windsor or otherwise. As for her argument about the cost of elections in the absence of a monarchy, this has often been used by dictators to justify their undemocratic actions. Grown-up countries don't encourage nepotism in any form - they pay the cost of democracy and accept its benefits.
