I read with interest Edward Helmore's article on the private detective Mike Emilianow ("Men? They're All Animals", 18 February) and, in particular, the claim by Mr Emilianow that the male gorilla is the best endowed, in proportion to body weight, of any species. When I was at veterinary school in the Fifties, I was taught that this distinction fell to the male Chinese striped hamster. How must the poor hamster be feeling to find himself usurped from this happy position - or is, perhaps, Mr Emilianow mistaken?
