Sir: It's too late to worry about the singularity of phenomena, Mr Leapman (letter, 13 August). It will probably fall in behind agenda, data and media.

Sir: Deborah Orr's "We must nurture political correctness" (Review, 14 August), was an example of deluded liberalism of staggering naivety. In any open, self-confident and ultimately sane society no subject will be beyond discussion, debate and, indeed, malevolent comment and humour.
