Chvrches' frontwoman Lauren Mayberry has announced that she and bandmates Iain Cook and Martin Doherty will be releasing a new record next year.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, she revealed that the trio opted to work with famed producer Greg Kurstin (Adele, Pink) for their third record.

Of working with Kurstin, Mayberry says, "He pushed what we were doing to be bigger in some ways, but he also pushed us to be weirder. He’d be like, ‘If the vocal melodies are as sweet and as precise as this, why don’t we make these other sounds so f***ed up and gnarly and strange?’ I loved that.”

It's a change for the Scottish synth-pop outfit who self-produced their first album The Bones of What You Believe and their 2015 follow-up Every Open Eye.

Instead of introspective lyrics, Mayberry says the band opted to look outside themselves when it came to songwriting.

They jotted ideas in a notebook and looked for moments that they could write about as they went.

“I was looking at the world and realising that we are both the best and the worst — humanity does all of this to itself," she notes. "(The album) is about questioning why we are where we are and how do we reconcile with that.”

While no release date or album title has been revealed, Mayberry insists that Chvrches' third LP will be their "most pop" work yet.

And with Kurstin in their inner-circle, their new LP is guaranteed to garner buzz.
