IF you really always wanted to play or sing contemporary music but don't know where to learn the tricks, there's a week-long gathering in Yorkshire at the late summer holiday that may point you in some new directions. 'Contemporary Music- making for Amateurs' offers sessions with Mary King, Daryl Runswick, John Tilbury, Diana Burrell and Judith Weir, among others (the presence of the radically minded Tilbury should ensure that awkward questions get asked about missing parts of the spectrum). Regional arts boards have been offering bursaries for residents, and there are still spaces left - flutes, clarinets and double-basses are particularly welcome. Details from 081-980 1527.
