American film star Drew Barrymore is trying her hand at music video direction with a track by Los Angeles surf pop band Best Coast.

Best Coast frontwoman Bethany Cosentino told Rolling Stone magazine of the union in an interview posted June 17, saying she had met Barrymore backstage at a show in LA and the two became fast friends.

"She's the nicest, most down-to-earth person I've ever met," said Cosentino. "We were like, 'How can we work together?'"

Barrymore made her film directing debut two years ago with the roller-derby comedy Whip It, starring actress Ellen Page. Now she'll direct a clip for the tune "Our Deal," which Cosentino said will feature actress Miranda Cosgrove, Chloe Moretz of Kick Ass, and comedian/rapper Donald Glover of the US television show Community in a "cool concept" conceived by Barrymore.

Other actors-turned-music video directors include the late Heath Ledger, who shot a clip for "Morning Yearning" by Ben Harper. MTV News reports that Ledger also directed a video for "Black Eyed Dog" by Nick Drake, in which Ledger appears, adding that the clip has only been screened twice and never been released to the public.

Actor and director Sean Penn has also shot videos for Lyle Lovett, Peter Gabriel, and Shania Twain.
