Richard Thompson's new album, Electric, was recorded almost live in the producer Buddy Miller's Nashville house, and it swings in a way he's not swung before, hitting a driving, funky groove – Thompson himself has hailed it as the first in a new folk-funk genre.
A stand-out release in an outstanding 30-year solo career, it should get a thrilling outing on his tour with a power trio featuring the drummer Michael Jerome and the bassist Taras Prodaniuk.
