Let the festivals commence! Welcome to Coachella. Please don’t wear a shirt

Most of us might have enjoyed the first of some summer rays over the weekend but you almost certainly weren’t having as good a time as those attending the Coachella music festival in California, where The Stone Roses, Blur and Red Hot Chili Peppers headlined.

With its close proximity to Hollywood, the event attracts the starriest crowd of all the festivals. Katy Perry was there, as was Chloë Sevigny and Diane Kruger. Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson went too.

And what a time they had! The photographs might suggest being young, tanned and beautiful was a pre-requisite for securing a ticket… and that’s not far off (although Danny DeVito was also in attendance, as he is every year).

Should you be going for the festival’s second weekend on Friday, ladies don’t forget you are required to sport a crop top and bum-skimming denim shorts. As for the men, remember not to bring any sort of top; it will be confiscated at the entrance.

But if all the smug shots have left you feeling a bit ill, then take some comfort in knowing that Coachella is also the strictest festival around (you can’t drink while you’re watching a band play, you can only booze in designated areas). That and the fact that a sandstorm on Sunday left much of the crowd with grit in their eyes and mouths. Ha!
