Observations: More treats in store for the UK's Korea-minded pop fans

If any proof was needed that K-pop, South Korea's heady combination of bubblegum pop, dance and electro-pop, has caught on in the UK music scene, the excited screams at IndigO2 in London last weekend would tell it all.

The gig, featuring some of the biggest K-pop bands to emerge from Korea including 4Minute, EXO-K and Nazaro, sold out in just three hours. It is the first in what is now going to become a series of concerts in London run by the Korean Ministry of Culture and sponsored by MBC, Korea's equivalent of the BBC.

In December, YouTube launched a channel dedicated to the music. Now, artists such as 4Minute are racking up 11 million hits on YouTube.

When boy band SHINee performed at the Odeon cinema in Leicester Square as part of the Korean Film Festival last year, they instantly sold out the venue.Now fans can rest assured that there will be another – and bigger – UK show soon.
